This ad for the 790 on George hostel in Sydney, spotted by Gadling, may possibly be the most absurdly ineffective marketing in the history of hostels. Nothing screams “sleep here” like close-ups of the same creepy guy giving you the thumbs up in every room, over and over, giving the ad a distinct stalker aesthetic. Add to this the thrown-in autotune effect and 90’s software graphics and you’ve got the perfect mix to keeping even the most hardcore backpacker away (except, as Gadling points out, for ironic value).
