For American travelers missing the days of fares to Europe under $800-1,000, there is hope. At least for a few select cities.
Low-fare carrier Norwegian Air Shuttle already has service to New York-JFK and Ft. Lauderdale, and in 2014 service will be expanded to include Orlando, Los Angeles, and Oakland. The carrier is offering flights as low as $237 each way (tax included), which makes that European trip just a bit easier to get to.Â
But of course, there are a few downsides of a cheaper fare. The U.S. routes, current and forthcoming only serve Oslo, Stockholm, and Copenhagen. And to keep costs low, passengers pay extra for checked bags, food, and using a credit card.
