Exploring the World’s Finest Casinos

Like people, casinos are all different – and which one is the best or the finest will depend on an individual’s tastes and needs. Some bettors will require a casino with plush surroundings, vintage liquor and high-adrenaline table games, whereas others will want a casino that is full of slot machines.

What if you’re going on a casino themed holiday — where should you go? Most people will immediately think of Las Vegas and, although it is probably the most popular destination, that doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s the best.

The oldest casino in the world is based in Italy and was built in 1638. The Casino di Venezia was the first casino built in Venice and offers all your gaming needs in a truly unique setting. Full of culture and historic interest it is certainly a must see for casino-lovers.
Many people think the Casino de Monte Carol in France is the oldest in the world; however, this was built in 1856. This is possibly the most well-known casino – having hit the limelight during the filming of Casino Royale – and continues to attract some of the world’s wealthiest clientele.

Despite the overwhelming beauty of the older casinos, one that deserves a mention in the ”˜most beautiful’ category is the Sun City Resort Casino in South Africa. Somewhat of a mecca for the continent this casino, built by hotel tycoon Sol Kerzner, is set in beautiful grounds and boasts some stunning architecture.

When it comes to popularity stakes we all know that Vegas wins hands down. The dazzling lights, fountains and endless shows make it a dizzying assault on all the senses that brings with it excitement and awe. The strip contains more casinos that you’d care to mention and an array of gambling big wigs all in one place.

Casinos have recently spread to Asia too – with the first, Marina Bay Sands, being built in Singapore in 2010. But the largest casino in the world is only an hour’s ferry ride from Hong Kong in Macau, China. The Venetian Macau Resort has been dubbed ”˜the Las Vegas of Asia’ and is continuing to gain popularity. In contrast, the smallest casino is in North County, San Diego and is run by the La Jolla Indian Band. The slot arcade is located inside a mini mart and measures a meager 15x40ft.

However to us the most unusual casino in the world would be the Tusk Rio Resort in South Africa. Despite its size (266,330 square feet) it offers only 13 table games and 257 slot and poker machines. Why travel to Africa to play your favourite card game when you can just as easily play from the comfort of your own home and have more choice?

There are many casinos now that offer online blackjack, poker and roulette that can be played via PC or mobile. Travelling the world to see some of the finest casinos would be amazing but it’s hardly as convenient as logging onto your computer with a brew or a martini to indulge in a quick game.
